Mid-Willamette Family Medicine's mission is to provide personalized, high-quality care on an as-needed or preventative basis. We have created a practice that we believe in. We are a full-service family practice clinic with dedicated, experienced physicians who believe in working with our patients to maintain and improve their health. We believe in providing comprehensive health care services to our patients in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. We also believe in educating our patients as we work with them to achieve the best physical state possible.
Both Dr. Yao and Dr. Johnson are certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and come together to this practice with years of experience in their area of Family Medicine.
In 2014, Dr. Johnson retired from U.S Navy after serving 27 years. He started off in his career as a Naval Flight Officer and flew Prowlers, Intruders and Sky Warriors. He then became an Electronic Counter Measures Officer and Bombardier Navigator. He was in the first Gulf War aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, attached to squadron VAQ 140. He flew for 10 years with the Navy before going to Loma Linda Medical School in CA where he met Dr. Yao. He was initially interested in General Surgery where he completed a G. Surgery Internship at Tripler Army Medical Center in Oahu. He was then the Battalion Surgeon for the 1st Marine Division, 1st and 4th Battalion, where they were the first Marine Expeditionary Unit to enter Afghanistan after 9/11 attack on The World Trade Center. In 2004, he completed his Residency training at Naval Hospital in Camp Pendleton. In 2006, he was assigned to the army as a Medial Officer in Kuwait and he was the Medical Officer evacuating US citizens from Lebanon during the Israeli bombardment of Beirut.
Dr. Yao graduated with a degree in biochemistry from UCLA. She spent 10 years working as a Research Scientist for Amgen Inc, one of the largest biotech company in the country. When she turned 30, she wanted to do more. She explored the veterinary medicine field by working with small animal and equine veterinarians. She spend some time working with zoo keepers at Santa Barbara Zoo and volunteered at the Raptors Rehabilitation Center in Simi Valley. At the same time, she also wanted to experience working in the field of human medicine. She was accepted into a preceptorship program at USC Los Angeles County Hospital and worked in the ER for 3 months. She decided to pursue a new career in Medicine and Research and was accepted into a Medical Scientist Training Program at Loma Linda Medical School. She spent 4 years participating in research in the field of Diabetes. She received scholarships from American Federation of Aging Research, NIH and American Diabetes Association. The scholarships brought her to renowned labs at John Hopkins, U. of Maryland and U.C. San Diego. In 2005, she completed her Family Medicine Residency at UC Irvine and served the underserved working at a community clinic in Costa Mesa. After a year, she joined a private practice in Newport Beach, CA.
In 2007, Dr. Johnson was transferred to Naples Italy and the whole family uprooted and immersed themselves in the Italian Culture for 3 years. There Dr. Yao worked as a Civilian Contractor Physician at the Naval Hospital along with Dr. Johnson. In 2010, they moved back to Oregon. Dr. Johnson was stationed in Washington at Oak Harbor Naval Hospital. Dr. Yao and her kids lived on the family farm and started a practice in Scio where Dr. Johnson grew up.
In April 2014, Dr. Yao started the clinic in Albany where Dr. Johnson joined her after he retired.
